Western Trail Gaited Horse and Mule Saddles

Western trail gaited horse saddles are the most popular style of gaited horse saddle in the United States.  Crest Ridge Saddlery offers 5 different western trail gaited horse saddles, each uniquely designed to match needs of the gaited horse.  Our gaited horse saddle designs were inspired by working saddles from the ‘wild west’ which we modified to take advantage of modern technology and our years of experience in leading organized trail rides. In our flare trees, the gaited horse’s shoulder is free to move and the rider is placed in the center balanced position that has been proven superior over centuries of riding.  Our gaited horse saddles offer a variety of rigging options to prevent galling and promote saddle stability.  Crest Ridge Saddlery places a premium on rider comfort too.  Many of our saddles have Supra-Cor padded gel-like seats standard or available as an option.  Many of our gaited horse saddles can be, as an option, reinforced to safely withstand the demands of roping.  Our Western Trail gaited horse and mule saddle lines are the: Bear Trap, Guffey, High Prairie, Sentry, Sonata and Wade.

Treeless Saddles and Flex-Tree Saddles

You may have already noticed that Crest Ridge Saddlery does not offer any treeless or flex-tree saddles.  Our reasoning for this is simple--treeless, flex-panel and flex-tree saddles do not offer the weight distribution qualities of conventional rigid saddle trees and are more likely to cause your horses back to become sore.  Read more!

Customer comments and Feedback

Hi Debra, Well, we finally were able to trail ride for a few hours today and I had to write and tell you, Reina, my Paso Fino, and I just LOVE this saddle. Reina rode beautifully, she just seemed so happy and relaxed the whole time.........what a pleasure! It's a perfect fit for me also, the SupraCor seat is wonderful, the stirrups are perfect and I'm very comfortably centered and balanced in the seat which is a great feeling. My butt cheeks are happy, my back feels good and my knees didn't hurt. Thank you for this beautiful saddle and all your help.  Happy Trails. Kathie Boyle  Willard, NC

G'day, I wanted to share with  you what you wonderful experience I have had purchasing a Sinclair Saddle from Crest Ridge, over the net, and then having it shipped to Australia. I ordered and paid for the Sinclair and also decided to get the pulling collar to match it.  During the whole process Deb and CJ were ever so helpful, when the saddle was ready, it was consigned to come on UPS, and they made sure that it got away on a day that was totally dismal with snow.  I insisted that they shouldn't go out in that sort of weather, but they still went ahead and made sure it was sent.   The saddle arrived in Australia in just over a week.    Each item was individually packed in bags, so that no damage could be done to the leather.   The front of the saddle had been protected with layers of plastic sheets, wrapped around, and then packing taped up.   What is so totally honestly awesome is that, UPS gave a credit to Crest Ridge for a preferred customer, and I get a phone call from Deb & CJ letting me know about this credit, and they want to give the credit of US$100.00 back to me.   I was totally blown away.    I  honestly believe, that divine intervention sent me to their web page, and the whole experience of buying a saddle from Crest Ridge, has been so wonderful and it is truly wonderful to be dealing with such honest people.  Considering, I am in Australia and everything has been done over the net, correspondence's, payments. What did I decide to do with $100.00 that they wanted to send back to me?   I decided to invest in a bridle to match the saddle and pulling collar, and pay the balance.   I am just so stoked about my whole purchasing experience from Crest Ridge.   Regards Wendy Kiemann, Brisbane, Australia

Hi,  I just got back in town from a three week trail ride in Tenn. and Kentucky. I will give you more details later but can't right now because I have to unpack. This is the short answer-- I had already bought 4 saddles and I don't know how many saddle pads, including "the Corrector" and my wonderful gaited mule was still sore.nancy and virginia 4

I did as Debra suggested and have just returned for the trail where I rode aprox. 20 miles a day and my mule was as happy on day 21 as she was on day 1. Debra knows what she is talking about, I just wish I found her before I spent the thousands that I spent on other saddles.
I will be glad to provide all the details if you wish, just let me know.

PS-- I feel the saddle was underpriced for the quality and workmanship.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my new saddle!!!
I am really impressed with the quality of the saddle...There is just no comparison between it and the Big Horn that I tried out first.  I can't believe they are both about the same price, but the CRS saddle is hands down more beautiful, more balanced and much, much better craftsmanship.  More horse moves out like there is nothing on his back!!  Happy trails ahead for my horse, and me!
Thanks, Debra, for all your help!  Mary Kriske

Hi Debra, I just wanted to email you and let you know how much I love my saddle.  Not only is it beautiful, and one of a kind with its stamping, but it is very comfortable and my gelding loves it!  He has even been willing to canter under saddle now.  You really are great to work with and your company is golden.  You really stand behind your work and are always very prompt and willing to answer emails and questions.  You were very patient and so helpful in helping make sure the saddle really fit this time. Thanks so much again!  Liz Carbine. (April 2009)

Debra,  We met with Andrea and she said the saddle fit great. We went out for a short ride and my horse was gaiting better, he definitely had more freedom of shoulder movement. And I LOVED the seat and feel of the saddle! We will be going out for another ride today and a long ride Friday. Thanks for making such a great saddle for us gaited riders!  Happy Trails!   Connie (April 2009)

About a year ago I purchased a Crest Ridge Crusade Lite Sport for my Tennessee Walker Jake. I was really having some problems with him. He was miserable! Ears pinned, feet stomping, tense, my gait was gone, something was wrong and I needed to fix it! After having talked with some other gaited horse owners I learned that my saddle was the problem. They told me I need a saddle specially made for high withered horses!

So, I went in hunt of a "gaited horse saddle" After much research and plenty of talking with saddle makers I found Crest Ridge! You were wonderful. You answered ALL my questions and answered questions I didn't even know I had! You were great from the fitting process to the purchasing process! Wow, what an awesome decision I made! Jake, my horse, and of course myself, are as happy as we could be. My horse is calm, happy, attentive to me on the trail and is gaiting like there is no tomorrow! Who would think that a saddle could make such a difference?

Well, let me answer that question for you....
There are 7 Tennessee Walkers on my property. Only one owned personally by me. All the horse owner's informed me that I was stupid to spend that much money on a saddle...A new horse would be a smarter purchase! Well, there are still 7 TWH horses on my property and everyone of them are now ridden in a Crest Ridge saddle! The difference this saddle made for my horse and I was so Impressive that one by one they all went out and purchased one! Thank You Crest Ridge Saddlery!
